Selecting a chair

Do you use your nursery rocker and do you recommend purchasing one?

I have been told that one of the most important items in a nursery is the rocker and ottoman because countless hours will be spent in the chair rocking a child to sleep.
While I have come across several in the past couple of months and have tested out the chairs and taken pictures in the store, there is nothing like hearing the true deal from others who actually have nursery rockers or gliders.
It is time to make a decision on the type of chair and style of chair so that we will be able to order it quickly when the other colors and fabrics are finalized. I desire a chair that is comfortable as well as has the ability to fit in the room and can be transitioned into a bedroom after it is no longer a nursery.

These are a couple of examples of chairs that we are considering. Focus on the style of the chair rather than the color.
If anyone has suggestions on great rockers please advise.

Hey K,
I don't have any specific chair suggestions but I definately recommend that you get one. I don't have one for Gracie's nursery & I've always regretted it. It will come in very handy during those late night feedings. Having a soft comfy chair to rock your baby in is the best. So go & sit in lots of different rockers and choose what's best for your tushie:)

Soror, I agree with Terri. You need to sit in the chairs---I mean really sit, wiggle around, put your back & booty into it. Take a sack of potatoes with you (psuedo baby) and really spend some time rocking in each chair. Remember, comfort over style!

Thank you for the recommendations!
I have tested a few chairs but I was truly interested in knowing whether people used their rockers or not and if
they are worth purchasing.
I thought Gracie had a rocker in her room. Her room has such an angelic look! I assumed you had one too!
I am trying to select a chair that feels good and has a decent price tag as well since someone else is purchasing this as a gift. We found several back in the fall that we tried out that we liked and we need to go back and visit asap.I love sitting in chairs curled up so I hope that we can select the perfect chair for us. Thanks again for your useful feedback. I am on the hunt!

Soror E.,
Thanks for the advice. We are going to go back and visit the stores that had the chairs that we tried out. One particular store had a variety of chairs and companies that they ordered from. They had plenty to try out. I actually found one back in November that was a chair that someone custom ordered but changed their mind when it arrived, but we had not decided on a gender neutral color at the time. They had some great deals. I am hoping to get a deal on whatever we order, even though this is a gift to us, I don't want it priced ridiculously.

When I try them out we both usually squirm around in them and sit in them for while and I make sure that I room for my backside!
I haven't tried taking a baby doll or anything in there to curl up in a position yet! Thats a good one. I will have to do that when we go back.

Yes, you are right comfort is priority over style. I am currently looking for something basic and traditional that we can transition to another room after it is no longer a "nursery" .

I will keep you posted on the chair progress. I kind of fell off the wagon with taking care of figuring out what pieces after we found what we were looking for and decided on some things. Now, we need to order due to turn around time with some pieces.

Thanks again for the motherly advice! Thats what I need you guys for. It helps to have moms like you and T. to share wisdom and current experience.

We have a glider set from Target. It was half the price of the one I really wanted. It's comfortable and it's held up well in Aliya's room. I think we'll keep in her room even after she's a big girl!

Good luck finding the right one for you and your little one!

I highly suggest some kind of foot stool!!!!!

Kelly,
Thank you for your suggestion as well. I will definitely look at Target. That is my favorite store! I definitely want some sort of ottoman to put my feet up on and hubby's feet.
As much as I shop in Target, I have never seen a glider in there. Maybe I have not paid close attention to it. I have noticed the nursery furniture, but not the glider. I will definitely look.

Well - I LOVE the last one ... looks so modern but yet comfy. We have a leather rocker that we HAD to buy with our third baby... she was a stubborn little one! We actually have it in our bedroom, but it goes perfectly! FOR sure get one that is comfortable for you, I spend HOURS in that chair, reading and rocking and snuggling!

Jodi, thanks for your recommendations. I am glad to hear that people are actually using their rockers a lot. The last rocker is nice. You have expensive taste girl! I think that one was the most expensive one out of the other ones ironically. The last one is by restoration hardware baby, and they have some really nice nursery items. Two of the others were on sale at posh tots and the pink one is a practical nursery found at a furniture site that has a line of nursery rockers. It was also a reasonable price.
I didn't post the pottery barn one that we found, but it was probably the most expensive. I am not really for sure why. Their shipping is ridiculous as well.
Thanks again for your suggestions

Your selection is great, just be sure there is a way to wash the fabric. I say get one it will help with putting the baby to sleep at night! We live in a small apt so I ended up with a small rocker from Ikea, it's cute but it doesn't rock so well on the carpet.

Alisa,
Thanks for your suggestions!
The last chair is definitely a slip cover and a little more in price than some of the others. You are right, it would definitely be a plus to have a chair that can be easily cleaned or either have the capability of taking the fabric off. It definitely makes sense being in a nursery of all places and feeding a child.
Thanks again for the suggestion!

You defintely need one. Comfort, and easy to clean is tops. You will be using it to comfort baby when fussy and sick which will include spit ups, drooling, and the other not so nice occasions. You want it to be a chair that you won't get upset when the stains occur because they will and some don't come out. P.S. Hubby also got gel from hair stains on ours after falling to sleep in chair. I draped chair with blanket.

Kendral,
You are right! I know how anal I am about my furniture and you are too! I need something that can be washed or cleaned with ease.

Let's go out to the store that had the chairs that hubby and I found on election afternoon. The store that expanded in Vinings. They had a lot of options and could order whatever fabric that I wanted. I am going to check and see if they are open on Monday and we can take the kids with us and go since it is so close. That way, you can help me or I can hold baby girl to see if the chair does right.
