Making Progress

I am almost 3 days late posting this, but what the heck. I have been busy. I have forgotten about posting updates for the past month or so on the the progress with the nursery. We were initially going in one direction with a color for the room and then after we went fabric shopping early May, we decided to go in a different direction and we are pleased with our color selections and fabric choices.

We have purchased all of the fabric for the crib bedding. I need one more fabric and then we will be finished with that task. We found the other fabrics as well for some of the other things that we need made for the room in addition to the bathroom. So, in my absence from posting in the blog world, we have been making giant leaps with completing this room. Remember, we had the closet opened up to have a custom closet completed? This is the closet unfinished. I will post pictures with the completed closet soon.

I promised all along that I would show some of the progress towards completion. Even though I have not posted many pictures up here lately, I do have all of the pictures from beginning to end and whatever I do not post now, I promise to post when everything is completed.  We are supposed to have all of the extra molding completed this weekend with a few other installations.

Thank God, after this coming week with our final home study visit, we will be finished with the process. We will just have to submit the final copies of our profile book and that is it. The nursery will be pretty much complete except for the bedding and bathroom fabrics installed. We did not have to have the nursery completed, but it was a personal goal of mine to have it completed by early summer. So, I am on point.
The rocker will be delivered in July due to the fabric that we ordered being on back order. The great things is that it is paid in full.  Thank God, we will have all of this paperwork and everything else behind us. We can move on to focus on some other things.

The room was a soft mint green when we used it as our ironing room. We had to prime the walls in order to paint the color over it.

We left the bottom white to finish the wainscoting. The yellow color does not show up well with this picture. I will adjust the flash next time to show the richness in the color. It looks pale here, and it is not pale. I had the lights on in the room and the flash on the camera.

Communication..

Communication is important....

I should have posted this a few weeks ago, but we have been really busy.
At the end of April I contacted my Social Worker because we finally received some new clearance documents that the agency required in our state. We had not spoken to my SW since the first week in March and basically a month and half passed before we spoke with her via email or anything. When I spoke with her via email at the end of April, I told her that we wondered what was going on because we had not heard from her since the first week in March when we did our 90 day service plan.
Our last conversation (early March) consisted of us talking about scheduling the final home study visit and completing the profile. She said that any remaining documents could be picked up at our home. I don't know if I have shared this or not, but I carry a tote with all of our essential documents related to the adoption that is photocopied. So, in the event I need to fax something or resend something, I will have it with me organized. It also helps me keep everything together and organized because I am able to keep track of what I sent and when I sent it.

Well, the month of March was an eventful month for me. Then, April came in and we were still pulling some minor things together that we needed to have by her visit, however we still had not heard from her.  Anyway, to make a long story short, it was miscommunication. She stated that she was giving us time to complete the last bit of information and we were waiting on her to call us with the final visit day. We just figured she was extremely busy. So, after I contacted her via email, things quickly turned around because I was asking questions left and right as I was before. She was emailing and calling me etc trying to get dates available for our last visit and be accommodating.

I spoke with a couple friends and they also stated that really your SW should be contacting us on a regular basis, at least monthly to see how things are going or just to check in to see if we need any assistance. This was a little unusual, but we are at the end and I didn't even get upset. We had been so busy pulling things together in the nursery and working on other projects so we really did not have time to bug out about this communication thing.

We scheduled our final home study visit which will be brief and we are pulling together our profile book. She initially said that she was going to bring some examples of profile books with her when she comes for the final visit. However, we thought that we would have had that visit in April, to be honest. We started pulling things together on our own, so hopefully, we will have the book completed when she arrives at the house versus having to look at examples and then start on it. I wanted things completed by early June.

This just goes to show you that things occur and we run into bumps in the road with our journeys, but we are so at peace and moving along doing what we need to do. While this was some sort of communication error, it did not really stress us out. At one point, I questioned whether or not we were truly doing the right thing, because after all this is where we were led. In the end, we know that God is truly in control of this journey.  I know that my patience and faith have been truly tested with this adoption process.

Happy Anniversary to

Happy Anniversary to us....
5 years ago on this day, Mother's Day weekend, we took vows to one another as husband and wife on a beautiful Saturday evening that had perfect weather in North Carolina. Wow, time has really gone by. I have learned a lot and I have grown up a lot as well, even though I was already very mature, it is a different type of growing because it is growing up in a marriage.
We have several things going on this weekend so we will be celebrating our anniversary another weekend this month when we can devote it to celebrating 'us". Things have been crazy busy, but we are going to dedicate a weekend really soon this month to finish celebrating.
I will post a few pictures later...

Cinco de Mayo

Keeping with the spirit of cultural diversity and continuous learning, I have placed a link to give information on the cinco de mayo holiday celebration. It is very interesting and has a few activities also for the little people. Enjoy.

Sunday Delivery

Our nursery furniture was delivered late this afternoon. It was an exciting feeling to have major pieces in the room to actually see how much space we have left. After seeing the pieces in the room, I am more excited about pulling the finishing touches to the room to transform it into the nursery. It was kind of like a surreal moment when I saw the furniture placed into the room.
One thing that I can say is that it is good to get your major pieces in because big pieces take up a lot of room and it clearly gives you a realistic view of what else can be added. We measured beforehand, but it is nothing like having the actual pieces in the room. It is very easy to get carried away ordering too many pieces.

My hubby is walking to greet the delivery guys.
