One stop shopping

Don't you just enjoy when you can deal with one store and practically get everything that you want in a custom package with great customer service?

We went out for a late afternoon quick trip to return to the last juvenile furniture store that we visited back in the fall. This particular store can provide all services that we need to pull a nursery together from the furnishings, art, custom rugs, lighting, decorative pieces, custom bedding, chic baby bags, and oh so much more. Although we have decided to purchase our crib from another vendor, this store can assist us with all of our needs and they have free design services as well. I literally paid attention to so many of the things in the store today. I recognized so many of the little items that I have seen in many nurseries and items from designer magazines and websites.

I enjoy having excellent personal service and I will ditch any store over poor service. We arrived at the store about 30 minutes before it was supposed to close. The designer that we met back in the fall recognized us when we walked in the store. Unfortunately, I didn't recognize her when I asked her for the person that we had back in the fall (which was her). She was so excited and asked us where we were with the process and we updated her.

I really can appreciate the fact that when the designers understand the uniqueness of our circumstances (adoption) and can still provide excellent services. She also advised us of what we should focusing on ordering now and then we can work on the finishing details of pulling the room together. In addition, she advised me not to panic with the turn around time for the pieces because the baby would be sleeping in a cradle or bassinett for the first month or two anyway. Although, I had heard this from many other parents and adoptive parents, I still desired to have a somewhat complete nursery prior to the baby coming.

We were able to look at some final selections and take literature home with us to review so that when we return to make the final selections to order on the pieces that we were interested in.
I don't know about anyone else but great customer service plays a large role with whether or not I will give my business to a store, no matter how much I love their merchandise. I paid attention to the fact that while the store had closed while we were in there with a few other customers, no one eye-balled us as to indicate they were closed, and no one hurried us with our shopping. We continued to receive excellent customer service and our designer worked hard to direct us into the area of our final selections.

Yes, we found a nursery rocker that we were pleased with and fits our needs!
We have not finalized the exact color, but we have an idea and will have it taken care of by ordering day. We also voiced our concerns about the ability to clean the material as well and they informed us of a product that is great for upholstered chairs. She informed us that the slipcover would probably change the look of the chair that we were desiring.

Prior to arriving to the store, I emailed our designer (at the store) a picture of a crib that we found another store and we are determined to have the crib. This was sent so that she would have an idea of what we were trying to achieve with the nursery and I had promised these pictures since November when we visited the store.

Interestingly, I went to this stores website, which I had not done before. I read about them and found out the store owners were the daughter and granddaughter of the family that brought Ethan Allen to my state. Although their baby store has not been in existence for a really long time, they are indeed unique and offer one of a kind service.
This all made sense now with their design services. I did not know this before, but it made perfect sense. They have learned the family business and made it work in the baby industry!

We are very familiar with EA furniture. Before I left NC and moved to NYC I purchased several rooms from a High Point furniture market dealer store. Once I settled in NYC, I wanted to purchase a few more things but I was not familiar with NYC furniture stores, but I was familiar with my roots, NC and I knew that the delivery would kill me if I decided to order more things from home to come to NYC. I decided to order a few things from EA furniture and I was pleased.

Once we relocated to the state that we are in now, time was of the essence once we began building our home and we decided to take a chance on them again since we didn't have time to go back and forth to NC constantly looking for furniture.
We actually registered with EA when we got engaged so that we could get gift cards to assist us with furnishing our new home and list them as one of the stores that we were registered with. Believe it or not, people really liked the idea and we received many EA gift cards as wedding gifts from guests. We also established relationships with designers and I still have a designer that we met back in 2003 that is still with us now, but has her own designing business and she is apart of our extended family now. She reminds us that it takes time to pull a home together with furnishings and decorating and it is worth taking your time, if you wanted it done right with furnishings that will last.

Therefore, seeing this store and reading their history made perfect sense with their design services and all that they had to offer. I will keep up an update of our turn around times with our ordering. So far, turn around time is 8-10 weeks with all pieces and all custom bedding. They actually had a great sale of 20% off on certain Young America lines yesterday.

To all of my expectant moms ( birth or adoption) working on their nurseries, demand excellent customer service and do not settle for less my sisters!

Thanks for your comment on my blog! I liked your suggestion for using the fine tooth comb, so I'm going to give it a try next time. Practice, practice, practice is my motto! Where are you guys at in the process? Have you selected an agency? I look forward to following along with your journey via your blog! And, oh what a journey it is, right?!

Best,
Shawna

Hi,
Thanks for visiting as well! You did a fabulous job on your daughters hair and I applaud you for attempting! It is even difficult, even for African Americans. Especially for those who never had to do a smaller child's hair. It does take lot's of practice and then you will be able to do it without thinking about it.

Yes, we have an agency, we are with a local agency here that is also in other states. We are finished with all of the big stuff and paperwork! I had my hs interview prior to Christmas.
Final two visits of homestudy and thats it. All of the health clearances and back ground clearances have been completed--which was necessary. Our home study will be completed in a few weeks. Hubby was busy at work and working late hours since he returned to work after Christmas, so getting in for his appointment with the SW was delayed. However, we will have his interview and the last home visit back to back.
They are excited to have us and we are excited to be there.

It is only 3 AA families in the program now waiting for babies and we are one of them and another couple that went through training with us just turned all of their documents in before Christmas. They are working on their time line and scheduling their home study appointments.

Yes, it is a journey, but it is oh so worth it. I am just trying to stay a little ahead of the game and process by purchasing some things so that we are not caught off guard with a call. They advised us it can happen very quick. Yes, please visit and follow along with us during our journey and every day life conversations!

Oh Jodi! I dread that place. I have not changed my maiden name to married name legally..Shame on me!!
I have been dreading the visit due to the long lines and ignorance that takes place. My best bet is to go up there early one morning during the week and take care of it. I have had several friends complain about the process of changing their names, and or getting cards for kids.
I really have a problem with poor customer service and rudeness when you finally do reach the window!
