The agency was hoping to have at least 8 African American couples present for this training since there is a great need for AA adoptive couples for AA babies being being born. Some of the other couples that were supposed to attend had schedule conflicts and will attend another training session.
Before we began our adoption journey, I always heard that it is difficult to find an AA infant for adoption, unless you are going through DFCS as a foster parent or either the infant may have some possible addictions. However, when I started contacting agencies it seemed that in a lot of cases that AA infants were high priority cases and were available more so than any other race. I am welcoming comments.
I can admit that I had my own concerns prior to having a one on one session with the agency and going through the workshop. A lot of the concerns that I had were discussed and I am more comfortable with the Domestic Adoption process now. Although I had my own concerns when we were in the international process; there still seemed to be a limited amount of AA adopting from Ethiopia as well.
