We looked at the paperwork last weekend after the workshop that we attended. It is actually not that bad at all. We are already more than halfway there, believe it or not.
We have to do the following things:
- fill out the application portion (3 pages) and submit with payment
- background checks done after application is submitted
- medical clearances from our pcp's (primary care physicians)
- the home study is the next step after we submit the application and then profiles are shown
- placement
During the home study process we have to fill out some additional paperwork that deal with physical descriptions of us and our immediate family so that the best possible match can be made during the process. We also have a document to fill out that summarizes what we are willing to accept in terms of possible communication with birth parents if needed. There are some other documents that we have to fill out as well. I will cover those when the time comes.
The paperwork has not taken over our kitchen!

Good wishes...
I hope everything moves really smoothly for you. I look foward to your updates.
Thank you for the words of advice...
Thanks Angela!
I hope so too. It has truly been a journey and you will learn a lot of things about yourself through this process. We began with an interest in Domestic. Then we determined Ethiopia was it! Now, we are in the middle of a Domestic and it truly was not our decision alone trust me!
So far things have been "sweet". I can not describe it any other way. From the ease of the paperwork to the surprise reductions in the actual adoption costs.
I believe that when things are aligned as they should be they will fall into place. I am not saying that it has been without any worry or initial fear; there will always be bumps in the road. However, things will work out. Your situation will come to light as well! Continue being patient and open your heart and mind. It will come when it is time.
We are all here to help and encourage one another along our journeys. Thats what its all about!
Keep me updated on your "narrowing down" process.
