Sick on vacation?

Where have I been?

Well, I was off this past week on vacation at home, but about midweek I came down with something awful. Wednesday morning I woke up with a dry, persistent cough and by Wednesday afternoon I had a temperature that came out the blue with aches. It hit me while I was out shopping. Little did I know that I would be in for the remainder of the week battling a temperature, night sweats, aches and upper respiratory infection that is now the main concern. I was stuck in my home from Wednesday until Sunday (yesterday).
I will have to go in to my pcp later this week or the beginning of next week to have them listen to my lungs. I am currently suffering with a horrible cough and chest congestion that is trying to come up. We will see if the medication they gave me on Friday helps until I go in to have them listen to my chest.

Prior to getting sick on Wednesday I did have fun in the streets and I took care of a few final adoption items. I will release those posts later since I did start them but I did not finish them due to my illness.  So, I will be working backwards a few days after this post releasing some from last week.

I returned back to work today, but I can clearly tell that my body is weak and the cough is aggravating at night as well as during the day.  It is some serious cases of the flu going around with everyone, but I am just hoping that I have not been walking around with pneumonia since my chest is not getting any better. I will be so glad when this is gone. It is just taking me a while to shake this.

Kristy,

Are you drinking plenty of fluids? I promise it will loosen your congestion. Drink a lot of water, a whole lot. Make sure you intake warm fluids and wrap up (like our moms tell us).

Poor kiddo, I hope you feel better.

Yeah, Angela I am drinking plenty of fluids and warm fluids. I am wrapped up at night as well. I am having sweats at night inconsistently. My chest sounds really junky like some of the older patients that I work with on the weekend. I have had a little wheezing at night while sleeping. Actually, I am drinking way more than eating since I really doing have a desire to eat.
Thanks for the suggestion girl, but I am doing everything that I am supposed to. I am not being a hard headed medical professional. We can be the worst!

I will keep you posted. I just need this chest to break up.

Kristy, I feel for you. My symptoms started the exact same way. Today was the first day since last Tues that I'm not having the aches & temp. I still have the cough though and I'm very weak. Take care of yourself, this flu bug is no joke. Be prepared to feel pretty rotten for a few more days. I'll say a prayer for you.

I had that same thing last year and the year before. The doc told me that if I hadn't come in that pneumonia would have been the outcome. I know exactly how you feel. It took about 2-3 weeks before I started feeling normal. I will keep you in my prayers.

I got sick last week as well. Same time Isabel did and same thing. I'm finally starting to feel better except for the cough and a bit of congestion still. But at least I'm functioning again.

Glad you're feeling better and have gotten more done towards the adoption.

Terrie,
Thanks for your prayers. It has been rough. I have been coming in resting and going to bed early. I am drained in the evening because I cough all day long and in the evenings. My cough is getting a little better, but I still have stuff in my chest. I am going to give my meds a week before I have the chest Xrays done.
I hope that you are feeling better as well. I have been out of touch with this illness. I can imagine how you were feeling because it sounds like we had the same thing going on. I hope that you have a speedy recovery.

Hey KMR,
This was a beast. It really knocked me down this time. I had a temp for several days that I could not shake for anything on top of the horrible cough and chest cold. Yes, I am slowly trying to get it together. I have been coming in resting and going to bed earlier because I am needing more rest. I am trying to give my meds a little time to work. You are right, it is going to take some time to return to my normal health.

Hey Debbie,
this season of colds and flu has been really bad on a lot of people. I have run into a lot of people that have the same things. I did not have any strength last week to do anything once I got sick. I was literally sleeping all day long. It was rough. The most tiring thing is the cough and the cold coming up and out now. I am slowly trying to get it together.
Thanks for your concern.

Ohhh Soror, I hate it that your vacation time was spent like that---Is it safe to put Vapor Rub on your chest to sweat it out?

I pray you feel better real soon!

I really hope you feel better soon. It is so awful when you can't sleep at night. It sure makes the days awful. Prayers to you and get well wishes!

Soror E.,
I did more sweating than I probably needed to for about 5 nights. It was a horrible feeling wet and having to get up and change damp clothes in the middle of the night due to a temperature breaking.
I did not put the vicks on my chest because my chest was already full of cold and possibly fluid so I did not want to expose it anymore due to the congestion and wheezing that I had while sleeping and the horrible cough.
A lot of people can get sicker from not washing off the vicks from their back and chest which is opened up and then they go out in the air with that stuff and it can cause more problems. I usually use Vicks for a stuffy nose to be honest.

Jodi,
Thanks, my nights are getting a little better with sleep. The congestion is getting better since I have been taking the medication. It is going to take me a little while to get it together, but I am getting there slowly but surely.

I don't know if I ever commented since you "stopped" by my blog. I've been a slightly negligent blogger since the Christmas holidays. Hope you are feeling better now, I had the stomach bug for a few days, but I would take that over what you had anytime. That's miserable! Looking forward to reading more about your adoption journey. :)
