Dinner

Dinner with childhood church friends from home....

Today was my second day on vacation. I relaxed and took care of some things at home and then I went to the nail salon to get my nails done. Afterwards I had an early dinner with a childhood friend from my old church back at home in NC.
She is about 10 years younger than me but we grew up in the same large Baptist church back at home and our parents were close and on the deacon board together for many years until my parents recently ( past 3 years) decided it was time to join another local church after attending their previous church for about 30 years. My parents still visit their old church for events and remain in contact with the members and deacon board.
Her mother is an old school member of DST and my mom is an old school AKA and we have numerous pictures of them posed together at different events from the church that I grew up in at home.

She remained here after attending Spelman and she actually lives only 5 minutes away from me. We have been trying to get together and we decided to have lunch/dinner on my week off. Her schedule was really flexible since she works at home in the field of IT. It was so awesome to catch up and I found out that there are about 4 more others from our church at home that have moved here as well.

Ironically, after our early dinner I went to Target to pick up some items for my home and I ran into one of the other young ladies who also grew up in our church. She moved here and purchased an older home in the area and is remodeling it! I am so proud of them. We all attend different churches that are near one another and we all live on the same side of town. We are planning to get everyone together to have dinner.
"H" would not let me cancel this dinner appointment, she called me and reminded me that we planned to have dinner and she patiently waited on my daily planned of events to be scheduled.

My mother was so happy to hear that we had dinner. She said it is important to stay connected with people from home and the church since we are all in the same city and state now. My mom watched all of these girls grow up into young women because she was the Youth Department Chair of our old church for over 25 years. So, these are like her play daughters as well because all of them were very active in our church back at home.
Its great to see that they are very involved in their new churches here as well. I guess it goes to show that if you do train a child right, they may stray a little while, but they will return to what they know eventually. We all planned to do better and stay in touch much better than we have since we all live 5 minutes apart in the same city!
