I am not for sure if I shared this or not a little while back, but one of my paternal aunts purchased a crib for us to have at my parents house shortly after she heard that we were adopting back in the fall around September. She wanted to surprise us over the holidays with the crib for Christmas but some people in my immediate family couldn't hold it and it slipped out! My parents picked up the crib from her home over the Christmas holidays because she lives only 10 minutes from my parents and they placed it in their bonus room to rest until we came back to visit.
We were very excited to see the crib because we did not know what it looked like and it was such a thoughtful gift. I believe it might have been a local yard sale or consignment shop. She always finds awesome things for great prices. The crib looks like it was barely used. We could not find any scrapes or dings. It looks brand new. Hubby put it together Friday night when we returned from shopping and looking for toddler church shoes (another story for another day). The crib is missing a piece that is probably at my aunts house, but he is going to order it from the manufacturer since the crib had all of the information with it and he found the part on line. The piece is the bar that aids you with lowering and raising the gate, which is an essential piece that was probably misplaced between my aunts home and my parent's home.
I thought that it was a really nice gift and we are so thankful for my aunt purchasing it. Now, I can go put it in my bedroom at my parents house and decorate that crib too! The baby will have a place to sleep in the room with us.
I had a feeling that my mother was going to try to do her own nursery for our baby, but her sister in law beat her to the punch with the crib.
My aunt and I have a special relationship because I spent a lot of time with her when I was really small (2 and 3) and she had recently graduated from nursing school. She would often ask my parents could I stay with her for extended visits out of states when she first started practicing as a RN. She always says that I was the best company as a little girl and she cried once to take me with her to Charleston SC to live with her since she was newly married, expecting and relocating out of state.
Needless to say, she got her way and I was allowed to go stay with her in Charleston SC since my grandmother was also going to help her prepare for her first child being born.
So, this crib means a lot to me because I know that it reflects the maternal feeling that she has towards me since she watched me grow up from a baby to a woman and I shared some firsts with her. She is one of the best and most dedicated RN's that I know. You gotta love nurses who are truly passionate about their jobs.

What a nice crib! It looks like solid wood.
Thats what we were thinking too Angela. It kind of has an old fashioned look and I like that. The wood finish actually will blend well with the bedroom furniture in my room.
The crib is a little lighter, but it will look nice in the room with it. I thought it was going to be a white crib, but my Dad told us that it wasn't white and he said it was a wooden crib when he first told us. I guess I need to find bedding for that one. Actually it will be easier because I already know the colors in my room at home!
Oh Soror---I like that crib. It has the vintage look where you can go for several themes/styles. I'm thinking retro-look with chenille fabric with lots of layers of bedskirts (see Bella Notte baby linens @ www.bellanotte.com) for a peak at what I'm talking about.
Have fun with the bedding!
Thanks Soror,
I am going to check out the site and let you know what I find.
I am exciting about picking out bedding for two different cribs. The one here at my home and this crib that will be at parent's home. I do love the vintage look. I am truly an old spirit at heart! Thanks again for the site.
It's so cute!
That's an amazingly thoughtful gift and touching story. I have an aunt that I've been extremely close to since I was very young. It reminded me of the relationship I have with her. You have such a loving family and it seems your parents are keeping in practice.
How fun! It sounds like you have a very special aunt. So - do you know the child/children you are getting already? Or not yet... I love the crib - beautiful!
I am needing Destiny hair help... It gets so tangly in the back where her curls are really quite tight. Any suggestions???
Valarie,
Thanks. Yes, we have a special relationship. When I fall on her mind she picks up the phone and calls me. She is so ready and excited for us to have our first child. She is already talking about using some of her vacation to come help us out. I think that it is special when you have relationships like this with family members. I am sure that you and your aunt have a special bond. I think the bond grows stronger as we become older.
Thanks Jodi. I will up date you. One child at a time! However, I am not saying that I would not consider a sibling group, but we are preferring an infant right now. I am going to email you back now regarding Destiny. I received your email.
What an awesome gift! My old baby bed looks exactly the same! My parents have made Turner his own room at their house too. It's so much fun :) Have a great weekend
What a heartfelt gift...those are the best kind!! Sounds like this little one is going to be showered with love from every side!! How wonderful to have family like that!!
Chassidy,
This will be helpful to have a crib in my room in my room at my parent's home. I am excited about decorating the crib and room there as well (or helping my mom decorate). Enjoy your weekend as well and enjoy your sweetums!
Thanks Marian!
We are really working hard now to pull everything together to have the room finished and waiting for a placement. I do mpot think that I can function with a quick placement and the nursery not being completed. I guess I am just type A personality!
What a sweet gift and how fun to be able to decorate two seperate cribs. :) We had nothing but the crib when we got the call for Isabella. Of course, we had only been in the process for a little over a month and our homestudy had only been completed 2 weeks prior.... so yeah, it would have been kind of nice to have it all done BEFORE the baby. :) That was the ONLY downfall of a quick placement, not getting to plan, organize, sew.... before she was already here.
Deanna,
I applaud you for being able to move forward with a quick placement!
In my mind, I would like to have things together totally, but we know that everything is in God's plans. I am feeling much better knowing that our major pieces are in. Things are not finished in the room, but they could be pulled together quickly.
It is never going to be a perfect time, but I wanted to be prepared just a little!
That was so NICE of your aunt!
Thanks Alisa,
It was a nice and thoughtful gift! She is soooo excited.
