New toy

Mommy has a new toy...

I wrote a post back in January titled " I need a Big girls camera" after trying to take pictures from across a banquet room and missing good shots at an event that I attended. I was beyond frustrated, and that was the straw that broke the camel's back!
I spoke to a few photographers (Jodi, thanks for all of your help too) and began my research in January after the event and my research continued through February and March. I made a decision around late February on Canon.

I decided to wait to purchase it during the summer months since we were still finalizing all of the adoption process costs during the winter. A new camera was not at the top of the list since we had just purchased a brand new camera last summer that I had not yet learned to use proficiently. However, I will still use my Sony Cybershot because it takes excellent pictures for a tiny camera with 10.1 mega pixels, opitical zoom 5x, smile shutter and wide angle lens 28mm. It is easy to put in my pocket or purse whenever we go out and it has really been wonderful having it with us to journal our adoption journey with pictures. However, it can not give me the flexibility of what I need for taking pictures from a distance.

My new toy arrived today and I am beyond thrilled! I am glad that I was patient because I was able to get what I wanted. Now, I will have to be patient with myself and learn how to really use this camera. This is one toy that will not collect dust!

Cool. I don't think I knew that you purchased it also. I must have missed that. I must have been out of state in classes or was preparing to leave at that time and my mind was not on blogs!
I love this Canon 50D. We tested it out in the store and I talked to a few photographers back in the Spring. I decided to get a more sophisticated camera since I was trying to become serious with my picture taking again.
I tested the Rebel as well and liked it, but the person in the camera shop suggested to go up since I was aiming for a particular zoom.

Awesome! You will LOVE it. I really think both the Canon and Nikon are good.... I just started with Nikon and that is what I know... so, you will LOVE the speed and ease of use, guaranteed... once you learn it all!!!!

Jodi,
Yes, I have been reading over the manual all afternoon. I still have a lot to learn. It has been fun practicing with it.

I will have to get your opinion on something. I met a young lady a few weeks ago out of state who also stated like you both cameras are great. She said they found that the Nikon shot better during the day and the Canon did exceptionally better at night or dark settings. Her husband has a photography business full time. I had never heard anyone say that, so I was curious.

I actually took some pictures tonight around 9:30pm that I will have to post later. They came out pretty decent.

Chassidy,
I am loving it already! I have been snapping pictures of flowers or any objects that I can practice with. Hopefully, I will be able to take beautiful pictures like yours soon!

I feel the same way about my camera. I found out that the distance pics are not that great. But a big girl camera is not in the budget right now even though I want one.

KMR,
It was so frustrating for me when I would attempt to take a picture of something a little distance away by zooming in. Many times because I was waiting for my camera to focus, I would miss good shots. Its a good camera for only good for taking pictures of things close up or not too far away. Trust me, I understand. I desired to get this camera in February, but I just purchased it this month. It takes time especially when you have other things going on. I have a great lense that came with the camera, but there is another lense that I would like to get in a little bit to alternate between for picture taking.
