I am almost 3 days late posting this, but what the heck. I have been busy. I have forgotten about posting updates for the past month or so on the the progress with the nursery. We were initially going in one direction with a color for the room and then after we went fabric shopping early May, we decided to go in a different direction and we are pleased with our color selections and fabric choices.
We have purchased all of the fabric for the crib bedding. I need one more fabric and then we will be finished with that task. We found the other fabrics as well for some of the other things that we need made for the room in addition to the bathroom. So, in my absence from posting in the blog world, we have been making giant leaps with completing this room. Remember, we had the closet opened up to have a custom closet completed? This is the closet unfinished. I will post pictures with the completed closet soon.
I promised all along that I would show some of the progress towards completion. Even though I have not posted many pictures up here lately, I do have all of the pictures from beginning to end and whatever I do not post now, I promise to post when everything is completed. We are supposed to have all of the extra molding completed this weekend with a few other installations.
Thank God, after this coming week with our final home study visit, we will be finished with the process. We will just have to submit the final copies of our profile book and that is it. The nursery will be pretty much complete except for the bedding and bathroom fabrics installed. We did not have to have the nursery completed, but it was a personal goal of mine to have it completed by early summer. So, I am on point.
The rocker will be delivered in July due to the fabric that we ordered being on back order. The great things is that it is paid in full. Thank God, we will have all of this paperwork and everything else behind us. We can move on to focus on some other things.
The room was a soft mint green when we used it as our ironing room. We had to prime the walls in order to paint the color over it.
Below: unfinished closet
We left the bottom white to finish the wainscoting. The yellow color does not show up well with this picture. I will adjust the flash next time to show the richness in the color. It looks pale here, and it is not pale. I had the lights on in the room and the flash on the camera.

I think you need more clothes!!!! Just kidding! That is what Aliya's closet looked like long before we found out about her!
Kelly!
Oh..please don't let my hubby see that! :-)
I guess it just kind of grew bc initially we were in an IA program and I planned on buying a little at a time since we knew that we were asking for an infant girl at that time. Then we switched over to Domestic and it was difficult for me to stop purchasing girly things. I tried, I really tried. However, everything that I have purchased have been essentials for the early months! It is a little overwhelming, but I am going to put some of the things in the drawers this weekend after all of the furniture is moved back in the room. I am glad to know that I am not the only one that has a type A personality.
Baby girl looks like she won't need any clothing for the next year. I probably would be the same way.
Thank God you are at the finish line. I am very happy for you.
KMR Thanks!
I just tried to buy a little at a time, catch sales and layaway! The little purchases added up over several months. I think that it is perfectly okay to plan and be proactive, especially when you are adopting.
I am very happy that we are almost at the finish line. I am a little exhausted, but I haven't given up! All these things are done in His time and we are just doing what we need to do to prepare as much as we can in advance with economic times that the nation is experiencing.
Girl,
You you really have some clothes going on there. What color is the room now?
A friendly yellow on top; White on the bottom where the wainscoting will be. The furniture is antique black and with the distressed look in some areas of it you see a burnt orange yellowish color, so we decided to go with a particular shade of yellow to bring it out. We chose fabrics that were more traditional and have an elegant look when pulled together for the crib. We are also replacing the knobs with the furniture. I wanted an elegant and soft nursery with calm and nurturing tones. I will post a picture of the painted wall.
The nursery sounds like it's going to be amazing. Can I come move in???
I was the same way with buying clothes. With our wait for Russia I was buying boy stuff for a toddler and once we switched I found it very hard not to buy cute girl stuff for an infant. Like you, I tried to only hit the sales... But I did buy a few lots on ebay as well. I had to be prepared.
Debbie,
it has been a fun adventure. We still have a bunch of fine details to finish in the room, but most of it will be completed this weekend and the following weekends in terms of new molding and stuff. I have to go pick up the last fabric for the bedding. I have the fabric for the skirt, one side of the bumper, and the piping.
However, I need the fabric for the inside of the bumper and thats the one that I am picking up this week. I also need one more fabric for the window treatments since we are using the same silk skirt bumper fabric for 2/3 of the window treatment and another fabric for the other 1/3 so things will flow and be grounded in the room and not hopping around. It is coming together. It was just difficult for me to get to the fabric stores before closing during the week. I also need to get one more fabric for the diaper stacker and something else that we are getting made to hang on the crib.
I love pulling fabrics together and making things unique for our flavor because it gives us a custom flavor and I was blessed to get deals on the fabrics at the time.
I was not going to post any of the fabrics initially until they were made, but I wanted to share something because it becomes boring not to read or see something during a wait! I am a kid at heart.
We used this new type of paint called harmony paint by SW that is odorless and toxin free. My husband has the name of the color. The color did not show well on this shot. I will try to post a better one another day.
Soror, I'm not even mad at 'cha with that closet shot!
I'm loving the color choice and the progress you're making.
sobbing and whispering: can.you.come.over.to.

Soror E.,
You know that if I was on the West Coast, I would be there in a flash and we could knock it out in a weekend or two! My husband loves to paint and I love to pull things together with fabrics, colors, good finds to accent the rooms for good prices! We are always doing projects and we love it. Right now, I just want this room done.
Okay, the closet! I didn't realize how much we had accumulated until I started to go through things to organize them to put them in the drawers. I told him I was overwhelmed and started laughing at me! I just sat in the floor and looked at the closet confused. I have not put anything into the drawers yet! The clothing that could be hung up is organized by sizes and hubby suggested putting the 0-3 months in the drawers and leaving the rest hung up. What do you think?
After this weekend, I will put items into the drawers and organize the closet. The closet is supposed to be installed this weekend. A friend of ours does custom cabinetry and he took his time in between other big kitchen jobs that he had to do. All we had to do was let him know an exact date that we wanted it put in. Hubby wanted it in before the SW comes, which is Tuesday for our final visit and everything else is completed paperwork wise.
Seriously, If you need any help with anything I can send you some sites, or if I run across anything I can email you where I found it with pics, prices and suggestions. Just let me know. I love pulling together things. I envy those folks who could pull their nursery together in a month and have everything done!
I forgot to ask you Soror E.,
What colors will our precious princess room be painted? I can only imagine, but you may shock a sistah!
Oh, I love the 0-3 months in the drawer idea...I'm copying that!
Nope, no surprises with her room at all. It is Pink and Green Baby!!!!
Pretty much everything in her room was gifted by my line-sisters who shipped things in far and near, Sorors, and sista-friends I've met along the adoption journey (I'm amazed at the number of women who desire to adopt but hold back out of fear but are so desiring to give to our CocoPrincess).
When all is calm and well for the two of us, I will hit you up on the e-mail.
This color is so bright and beautiful, I am dying to see the whole nursery put together. Your closet looks like ours teehee. My Mom refuses to buy my daughter anymore clothes, LOL.
